Letter M Crafts for Preschoolers

I shared this post years ago, when my children were young. I love looking back at the fun things we did to fill our days as I taught my kids the alphabet! I highly recommend doing sensory, art, and fine motor activities with your preschooler simply because it’s fun. These activities also provide opportunities to develop oral language and other early literacy skills. However, please note that research tells us that direct instruction in letters and sounds is the most efficient way to teach and learn the alphabet. Find our full alphabet curriculum here.

Straw Blown Monsters

Letter M Crafts for Preschoolers (2)

This was my one of my Three’s favorite projects! He used an eye dropper, paint, and a plastic straw to create these adorable little monsters. Be sure to mix the paint with water so that it spreads easily when you blow through the straw.

Handprint Moose

When my Three came into the kitchen asking for a project, I pulled this one out. When you cut out the pieces, it’s a simple gluing and placing activity for preschoolers. I don’t recommend a solo diet of these kinds of projects, but I think they have value — for basic fine motor and skills practice — and many kids take pride in producing this kind of craft. Find this and many more letter M ideas atNancy Nolan’s Kindergarten.

M is for Monster

This was a cooperative project between my older boys. My Three made the eyes, and my Five added the teeth and horns.

M is for Marshmallow

I’ve been a mom for over six years, and I think this is the first time I bought marshmallows! The boys were thrilled to have a few before and after completing this fun craft. They placed colorful round office stickers on their M’s, added generous globs of glue, and finished with the mini-marshmallows. See our inspiration over at The Sellers.

Construction Paper Monkeys

While I prepared all the pieces, my boys did the gluing, drawing, and fan-folding for the arms and legs. They were quite proud of these! (My Three is still figuring out how to draw a smile :)). We found these over at Mrs. Karen’s Preschool Ideas in a collection of zoo activities.

Marble Painting

All my big kids (ages 3,5, and 6) made one of these. We taped a white piece of paper inside a box lid, added a few squirts of paint and threw in a marble. They loved rolling around the box top to create beautiful works of art!

Clean out the Craft Drawer Monsters

My kids each chose a color for their circle. I prepared the circles and placed odds and ends from our craft drawer on the table. The rest was entirely their work. My One loved sitting on my lap as he glued to his heart’s content.

Paper Plate & Toilet Paper Roll Mushroom

Letter M Crafts for Preschoolers (9)

Such a simple and fun project! My Three used a Do-a-dot marker to color half of a paper plate. Then I just cut slits in a toilet paper roll and slid in the top of his mushroom. He could hardly let go of it long enough for me to take a picture.

Magnet Painting

See the paper clip on the top of the plate? My Five is guiding it with a magnet wand (from this set) from the back. The boys really enjoyed this one — for instructions, see our inspiration at Rockabye Butterfly.

Hand and Footprint Monsters

Okay, I think these are just adorable. My boys took extra pleasure in dipping feet and hands into paint and making prints. After the paint had dried they added the details. You’ve got to love googly eyes.

Did you know I shared an entire collection of alphabet crafts over at Crystal & Company? This M is for Mouse craft was especially popular. Find the step by step instructions for this project (and links to the rest of the alphabet) at Crystal & Company.
