Is the UNC Chapel Hill library open to the public? ›

Wilson Library is open to the public during operating hours. Please note that food is not permitted inside the library. Securely covered drinks that will not spill if tipped over may be brought in.

The system includes Davis Library, the central collection for humanities, social science, and business research; Wilson Library, home to rare and unique materials; R.B.

State residents who purchase a card are limited to a total of five books checked out at any one time for the first year they have the Borrower's card. After one year of problem-free borrowing the limit on the number of items checked out may be lifted when the card is renewed for a second year.

University instructional and administrative buildings are generally open to the public Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., unless an exception or schedule change request has been submitted.

Community members are welcome between 7:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.

Can I get a North Carolina library card online? ›

As a resident of North Carolina, you can sign up for a library card at the Government & Heritage Library, part of the State Library of North Carolina (SLNC). To get your library card, fill out the online library card application form. You may also visit the library in person to apply for a card.

The ALA (American Library Association) doesn't specify how many books a library must have. Some experts think a library should have at least 500 books to be a “real” library.

Declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966, Old East Residence Hall is what University archivist Nicholas Graham calls “the most historically significant building on the UNC campus.” Its cornerstone was first placed on Oct. 12, 1793, now known as University Day.

Old East, on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is the oldest state university building in the nation. Except during short periods of extensive renovation in 1922-23 and 1991-93, it has been in constant use for more than two centuries.

Some services and spaces require you to have a campus ID and a Unity ID, but others are available to all eligible patrons. If you are not currently a patron of the NC State University Libraries, you may become a patron through the Friends of the Libraries .

Visitors must register for a free account at the Library Help Desk. The session time limit on these computers is one hour, and visitors are limited to a total of two hours daily.
